Since BER months na, ushering in events and festivities leading to the Christmas season. We prepare for the holiday rush, despite having problems. When I woke up last Monday, I heard radio stations started playing Christmas carols and even the television shows everything related to Christmas (masyado namang excited pero nakakatuwa kasi iba talaga yung spirit of Christmas!).
Apart from Christmas, there are still events that are much awaited which includes OKTOBERFEST, the beer drinking festival in October. It’s usually associated with beer drinking gatherings with friends and also street-partying. Another is the ALL SAINTS and ALL SOULS DAY where we pay homage to our departed loved ones.
But for us, the most anticipated events of the year take place in December, when Christmas day and New Year’s eve are celebrated. These are the time of the year when families and old friends holds reunion and foes sometimes become friends again. Like for us, our family (Silverio) always gather when Christmas and this are all we look forward every year kasi sobrang saya.
For me, some highlights for the Christmas celebrations are:
1. the tradition of simbang gabi where we attend mass. Before when Im single, sa Catholic kasi madaling-araw ang simbang gabi but when I get married, Protestants holds their simbang-gabi at night, around 8pm to 10pm then after that there are foods to eat.
2. the faithful feast on native delicacies such as puto-bumbong (my fave), suman, bibingka and hot tea…**yum**
3. the gift giving of course while we chit-chat with are love ones and even friends.
So since ber na, aside from being excited of the holidays coming, we all know that it is also the expensive season because we have to buy gifts for our inaanaks, aunts, cousins and other relatives. Thanks to the bonus and 13th month pay! Hehe..
