Dinner at Boon Tong Kee, Mall of Asia

Date of Visit: September 15, 2012

Last time, my officemate/friend scheduled a dinner night-out with our close friends from work. She treated us because her husband came back from Japan. It was also an opportunity for us to talk about business, our planned business and hopefully it will pushed thru. We came from our previous company (a financial institution) and now four of us are not connected anymore. So its like a reunion for all of us. Eventhough were not officemates now our communication is still there and our friendship remains the same. #Thankful

When we arrived in MOA, wala kaming makitang kainan kasi puno lahat. Payday eh! We can't transfer to San Miguel bay because its raining that time. We settled to Entertainment complex and found Boon Tong Kee located across the Highland Steakhouse near the IMAX theater. It's a Singapore franchise and first in Manila.

In 1979, Mr. Thian Boon Hua started a small stall in Chinatown serving Cantonese chicken rice. Building upon the popularity of his silky white sauce chicken rice and emphasis on quality service, he rallied his family members to establish Boon Tong Kee’s first restaurant at Balestier Road in 1983.

In its second year of operation, the restaurant started to garner rave reviews and accolades from industry luminaries and customers. Before long, outlets at MacPherson Road, Whampoa West, River Valley Road, Cheong Chin Nam Road and East Coast Road followed in rapid succession.
The company diversified its operations in 1999 to include "Zi Char" (home-style cooked food) and eateries. From the traditional Balestier Road outlet to the upscale River Valley branch, Boon Tong Kee has enthralled Singaporeans and tourists alike with its delectable food and friendly staff.

Here's our Dinner. We ordered the restaurant's recommendations:

Deep Fried Stuffed Fritter

Just like Lumpiang Shanghai but bigger in size.

Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Egg

Crispy Bean Curd

Its always been my favorite. This cute nugget-look-a-like with crispy outer part and soft in the inside is really good paired with Wasabi Mayo :)

Chicken Rice for all of us.

Came in pyramid style.

Signature Boiled Chicken

We ordered this because its their signature dish just like Wee Nam Kee's.  Best combined with sauces.

For our drinks (no photo), most of us ordered fresh buko juice while the couple ordered Barley and lemonade.

My friends

Its been good catching up with friends over food. Watcha think?

Our table location is outside the restaurant and its perfect while watching the fireworks. Kaya lang when the fireworks started people kept coming in and stayed at the railings. In short, our table was surrounded with people watching fireworks. Kainis dba? Buti na lang tapos na kaming kumain that time kasi mawawalan ka ng gana. Nevertheless, our dinner was fantastic.

Thanks to Jhoy and Moks for the free dinner.

Hainanese Delights, SM Southmall

Thank God its friday! Im on leave today because im not feeling well. I woke up having slight asthma, to not make it worse i didnt report to work to rest. Sana hindi lumala.

Last saturday, we went to SM Southmall to buy stuff for my cousin's wedding. We were late in doing this and its the only time that we had, hubby and my schedule didn't meet so it was only that saturday that we make sure to go to southmall or else they have no shoes and clothes to wear on the wedding!

Before looking for stuffs, we had our lunch first. I told hubby that we should try Hainanese Delights. First, we went to Pizza Hut because tami wants pizza, hubby bought his Java Chip from Starbucks then headed to the food strip and tried Hainanese Delights, the new fast food chain in SM Southmall. The facade is so catchy with its color. Looks like expensive but its actually cheap. At P120, one can get a good meal.

The menu

Cheap right?

Just like other food chain, you have to fall in line and order at the counter, take your number and look for your table.

Here's what we order:

Bring in the Beef (P120.00)

It was hubby's choice. Presentation is not that good and according to hubby, its very similar to Pares (a filipino food). The meal comes with Hainan rice. I tasted it and beef was really tender and juicy. I haven't tasted the pares yet kaya di ko ma-compare.

Hainanese Delights (P120.00)

Its very obvious from its name that this is their specialty. Its also comes with Hainan rice. This particular order can be shared by two.

The servings of the rice is really small but for all the rice lover, its good news because its rice-all-you-can. Im a bit dissapointed with the rice because it looks and tastes like java rice. If not for the condiments, hindi mo iisipin na its Hainanese, the chicken is a bit bland for me :(

Just  Nutty (P75.00)

I ordered  this drink because im a fan of milk teas. Hubby almost vomit after tasting this drink. Ang pangit daw ng lasa. haha

Overall, Hainanese Delights is ok for a fast food lover but i think im not coming back unless it was a treat from someone :) Wee Nam Kee's Hainanese is still the best for me:)

After checking the Lifestyle sale in High Street, me and my colleagues cross the street to Serendra for our dinner. With all the restaurant lined up in Serendra we chose Wee Nam Kee among all. I was excited then to try how good their Hainanese Chicken which is also one of Wee Nam Kee's best seller.

Wee Nam Kee is known for its Hainanese Chicken that originated in Singapore.

Since we dont know the preference of each other. We chose to have rice meal for each of us. Wee Nam Kee's servings has 4 choices: The personal set that is good for 1 only, Small for 2 people, Medium for 3 to 4 and the Large for family.

Here's what we had from the Signature Dishes:

I ordered Roasted Chicken Rice or known to some as Hainanese chicken rice.

The chicken rice.

Hainanese is perfectly good with the condiments.

My officemate ordered the Pork Asado set.

Two of them ordered the Roast Pork Rice or Lechon Kawali.

All of our orders comes with free Chicken soup. For our drinks, we ordered the Fresh Barley Juice.

Picture muna before eating.

Dinner will not end without our kwentuhan and lokohan. Till next dinner.

Early Dinner at Kenny Rogers

Like what i've said in my previous post, we dont know where to eat in SM Southmall since we've tried all the restaurants there, with no other choice we went to Kenny Rogers but before going there, hubby bought DQ ice cream first and brought with us in the resto.

Kenny Roger's New Offer

Good thing, Kenny Rogers has now different food to offer like their sandwiches, new steak etc and now they're offering Chicken Hainanese. With no hesitation, i ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice and Hubby chose the Rib Plate. We were advised to wait 10 mins for our order so we settled to our seats and took some pics.

Hubby

Me

Hubby munching on his ice cream..

He already emptied his ice cream but our orders still not served.

One of the attendant handed me a pen and paper and while waiting i did the survey thing. After that our orders arrived.

Kenny Roger's Hainanese Chicken Rice
Comes with the chicken soup plus the hoisin sauce, ginger and chili.

If you've been to Singapore, for sure you have tried the Hainanese Chicken Rice. Its always on my foodie list whenever im in Singapore and i must tell you that it was really good.

With Kenny Rogers Hainanese Chicken, though the presentation is not that nice, i must say that the quality of the food is really good. The chicken was distinctly (may word ba nun?) hainanese and was so juicy and oh the rice, the rice was so good that i have to ask another extra rice. haha (**welcome again 2lbs hehe**)

Hubby's Rib Plate

Consists of 1 side dish, 1 muffin, rice and 1/2 slab of rib.

Getting ready to chow down.

Hubby said he loved the tenderness of the meat and the sauce in it. Sarap to the bones daw.

It was a nice dining experience to both of us last Saturday and we never got dissapointed with what we have. Definitely were going back to Kenny's and im going to order their Hainanese again. It also affordable to the pocket, the Hainanese costs PhP 185.00, the Rib Plate is PhP 315.00, drinks are not included in the price, what i remember is i paid PhP 600+.

If youre planning of ordering chicken, Kenny Rogers has promo now for take-out orders:

Whole chicken at PhP 259.00 only

Have you tried Kenny Roger's Hainanese Chicken?
